Agreement with the Coordinator for the Study of Marine Mammals - CEMMA
On March 25, Conservas Antonio Pérez Lafuente signed a collaboration agreement with the Coordinator for the Study of Marine Mammals - CEMMA to support its work of study and conservation of mammals and sea turtles present in Galician waters.
United by the common goal of preserving the marine environment, we try to create awareness of the endangered species and promote the use of fishery resources in a sustainable way. Through this agreement, the company is committed to financially support the activities of the CEMMA, who will in return provide audiovisual material to be used during promotional activities for the company's products.
In this line, the tuna fishing in the Atlantic is of great interest because it develops along the krill's road, which is the tuna and many other species' main nourishment. For this reason, tuna banks are accompanied in their navigation by whales and other cetaceans associated with the coast. This fishery, which uses traditional fishing methods and small vessels, is conducted by an important part of the local fishing community in northwest Spain.
The contributed money will be destinated to the Thunnus 2011 Campaign scheduled for next summer, in which a CEMMA biologist will go on board to accompany the fleet operating between the Azores and the Bay of Biscay. There, he will collect biological information on cetacean species associated with this fishery.
